Week 1 at the MTC Sept 28, 2013

Marc's email from Smith:

Dear Dad,

The MTC is everything you said.  It has been so much fun. It was very hard saying goodbye to you but I have felt that I am supposed to be here.  I have felt so welcome here at the MTC.  I have 2 companions Elder Jones and Elder Mastin.  We all get along really well and enjoy each other's company.  All 3 of us are going to Vanuatu and we can't wait to go. It sounds like I will be flying out on October 6.  I have felt the spirit here and it is amazing.  I should be going to the temple next week and I'm very excited.  I sent you a picture of us sniffing a tree that smells like butterscotch.  Did missionaries sniff this tree while you were there?  I appreciate the things you told me before I came out here and I am glad I am able to be serving.  I love you dad and enjoy lake Powell.

Smith with his two companions in the MTC Sept 2013
Week 1 at the MTC Sept 27, 2013
We got an email!!!

Dear Mom,

I just want to let you know that I am having a great time at the MTC.  It was very hard to say goodbye but once I got here I felt that I am supposed to be here.  I sent a letter and hope you already got it.  I have 2 companions in which I get along with really well.  I have felt the spirit so strong here and it has been a wonderful experience so far.  We are doing a lot of role playing which is helping me with learning how to teach.  I have met many elders and sisters going to Vanuatu and I didn't know so many would be going where I am.  The Elders and sisters are great.  I haven't had a problem with any of them yet.  The food here is really good.  It's so much better than school food.  I am keeping busy here and I have a full schedule from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep.  It sounds like I will be flying to Vanuatu on the 6th of October.  I am really looking forward to the flight there (NOT!) My "p" days in the MTC are on Fridays.  I should be going to the temple next Friday and I'm way excited!

There's also a letter for the Samhammers if you can give it to them. I attached a few photos of me and my companions. On the photo with the map Elder Mastin is on the left and Elder Jones is on the right. They are both from Utah.  I hope they will have the chance to be my companion when I'm in Vanuatu.  I love you so much and I hope everything is going great at work and at home.

Marc taking Smith to the MTC

Marc dropping Smith off at the MTC Sept 2013

Marc and Smith went and had lunch at a pizza joint.  He said they met 2 elders that were also waiting to go to the MTC. Then they went to the Provo temple to take some pictures.  They met 5 elders that were waiting to go into the MTC.  So it sounds like he made LOTS of friends on his first day!  Marc and Smith took one last picture, and then the missionaries came and whisked Smith away!  It was short and sweet, just at it should be!

He will do great!!!

Smith's Mission Farewell September 22, 2013
Smith with Aaron, Veronica, and family Sept. 2013

Smith with Uncle Aaron and Auntie Veronica's cute family.  Aaron's family drove all the way from Arizona to be there at Smith's farewell. We were truly touched by all of the love and support from our family and friends.  Smith gave a great talk about studying the scriptures, and Marc was called up to the stand to bear his testimony.  The spirit was so strong at the meeting, it was a wonderful day...
